Alexander Bastrykin takes part in joint meeting of National Anti-Terrorism Committee and Federal Operational Headquarters

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin took part in the joint meeting of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee and the Federal Operational Headquarters on summarizing results of 2019 that took place in Moscow and was chaired by Chairman of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee--Director of the Federal Security Service of Russia Alexander Bortnikov. The event was also attended by other members of the Investigative Committee, the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Federal Districts, Heads of federal executive authorities, and representatives of special services and law enforcement bodies.

Opening the meeting, Alexander Bortnikov noted that the vast majority of terrorist offenses was suppressed due to well-coordinated actions of security forces. This year, the system of measures for countering terrorist ideologies has been further developed. The role and responsibility of authorities participating in the Complex Plan for Countering Terrorist Ideologies 2019-2023 have increased.

The Chairman of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee drew the attention of participants to the remaining treats related to attempts of leaders of international terrorist organizations to form conspired cells across the Russian territory to implement their criminal intents. Radical elements from Ukraine continue trying to destabilize the environment on the Crimea Peninsula.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia also delivered a presentation during the meeting and highlighted the main activities of the chaired agency in this field and the results of interaction with colleagues from law enforcement bodies. Alexander Bastrykin paid specific attention to issues of preventing extremism and terrorism among the young generation by building patriotism and respect toward the moral values of the society in young people.

Participants of the meeting discussed additional measures for neutralizing terrorist threats that would ensure an adequate response to such threats through forces and means of operational headquarters, anti-terrorist commissions, civil society institutions, and the whole public system of countering terrorism.

In conclusion of the meeting, Alexander Bortnikov awarded Alexander Bastrykin a valuable gift for his meritorious service in combating terrorism and personal impact in the implementation of the state policy in this area upon the results of 2019 performance.
