Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin took part in a meeting of judges of general jurisdiction and commercial courts of the Russian Federation in a video conference format.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin spoke at the event, noting that “being the highest judicial body, the Supreme Court of Russia performs extensive work on the consideration of trial cases; it analyzes and consolidates judicial practice, develops measures to improve the judicial system.” He also indicated that the courts did not slow down their work, emphasizing the special role of the Presidium of the Supreme Court and the Council of Judges, “who at the very beginning of the epidemic promptly adopted resolutions on the working procedures for courts and then regularly provided explanations on issues arising in connection with the pandemic.”
In his speech, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev summed up the work of the courts in 2021 and outlined priority tasks for 2022. Deputy Chairmen of the Supreme Court of Russia also delivered reports, informing the participants about topical issues of civil proceedings, administration of justice in administrative cases, development trends in economic justice at the 30th anniversary of the commercial courts operation, modern problems of applying the criminal procedure legislation, practice of bringing judges to disciplinary responsibility, and consideration of various categories of cases by military courts.
When exercising their powers, investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia effectively interact with courts when initiating criminal prosecution of a certain category of persons, selecting pre-trial restraints for persons involved, and during investigative actions that require a court ruling. The high level of such interdepartmental interactions ensures that the rights of criminal proceedings parties are respected, allows achieving significant results in countering crime, contributes to restoring citizens' violated rights the preventing illegal actions, guaranteeing the rule of law on the Russian Federation territory.
Following the event results, the participants outlined the importance of further implementation of measures focused on improving the legislative framework and consolidating judicial practice to make the judicial protection in the country more effective.
