Today in Moscow, near the building of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation located on Zhitnaya Street, Mr. Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, took part in the opening of monuments to statesmen and lawyers Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin, Mikhail Mikhailovich Speransky and Anatoly Fedorovich Koni, timed to 220 anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Justice of Russia.

The celebration began with a visit to the exhibition "Traditions of the pre-revolutionary era: the establishment and development of the department". The exposition is dedicated to the work of the Ministry of Justice in tsarist Russia and to persons especially significant for the Ministry. The exhibition features over 50 thematic exhibits, including authentic items and documents from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

After viewing the exhibition, the participants of the event were invited to the site in front of the Main building of the Ministry of Justice, where the monuments to the first Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General of Russia Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin, the compiler of the first Code of Laws of the Russian Empire Mikhail Mikhailovich Speransky and lawyer, judge Anatoly Fedorovich Koni were unveiled.

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Konstantin Anatolyevich Chuychenko, Minister of Justice of Russia, explained the choice to create monuments to three prominent Russian lawyers, and he also recalled that "the mission of the Ministry of Justice consists of a triad - this is to ensure the rights and legitimate interests of our citizens, the rule of law and strengthening of the statehood".

Also, Mr. Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin gave a welcoming speech, expressing gratitude for the erection of monuments to figures, who left a significant mark on the history of the department and all of Russia: "Thank you for these monuments! They will remain forever as a symbol of the greatness of Russia, as a symbol of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, as the basis of Russian legal statehood".
