In St. Petersburg, two ex-officials of prosecutor’s office found guilty of grand fraud

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Central Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict former prosecutors of Tolyatti prosecutor’s office for supervision of laws in penitentiaries in Samara Region Igor Surkov and Leningrad prosecutor’s office for supervision of laws in penitentiaries Anatoly Kozlov. They were found guilty of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the RF Penal Code (swindling on a very large scale).

The court and investigation have found that Surkov and Kozlov deceived an advisor to the CEO of ZAO Neva Technological Plant by promising general patronage and stole from the plant over 20 million rubles, 30 percent of shares and a house located in Vyborg District, Leningrad Region worth at least 20 million rubles.

Igor Surkov was caught red-handed during investigative and search operations conducted by the Investigative Committee together with the Prosecutor General’s Office and Federal Security Service in the town of Tolyatti while receiving from the advisor to the CEO of Neva Technological Plant 5 million rubles. Later, Kozlov and Surkov were delivered to Moscow and arrested.

The court has sentenced Surkov to 4 years in a minimum-security penal colony and a fine of 200,000 rubles and Kozlov to 4.5 years in a minimum-security penal colony and a fine of 300,000 rubles. In addition, the court has ruled that 16 million rubles of damage should be paid to the victim.
