In Rostov Region, probe launched in murder of police officer

The Rostov Region Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against a 67-year-old resident of the settlement Fyodorovka, Neklinovsky District, Rostov Region. He is suspected of crimes under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code (attempted murder), Part 1 of Article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms and ammunition) and Article 317 (attempt on the life of a police officer).

According to investigators, on 13 May 2016, at about 9:30 AM, the suspect arrived to the administration of the settlement of Fyodorovka, Neklinovsky District, and shot at the 63-year-old chief specialists of the administration presumably from a sawn-off Mosin rifle. He failed to kill his victim, because the man got medical aid and was rushed to hospital with the gunshot wound. A district officer, 59, from the Neklinovsky district police and juvenile department of the Interior Ministry, who was on duty in the administration tried to detain the suspect, but was shot to death. The suspect was disarmed and detained by the head of the settlement while trying to flee the scene and was handed over to the agents of the Rostov Region border office of the Federal Security Service.

According to preliminary information, the suspect was unemployed, abused alcohol and led a secluded life.

As for now the suspect is in detention. The investigators together with police officers continue investigative and search operations to find out all the details and motive for the crime.
