The Saratov Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligent homicide under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code after three people, including two children died in the Volga river near Zelyony Island in Volzhsky District of Saratov.

According to investigators, on the evening of 14 January 2017, a 51-year-old man under the influence of alcohol in a company of his relatives and friends offered his 6-year-old son, a 40-year-old friend and his 6-year-old grandson to have a ride on his Bars MB-500 motor towing vehicle (a multifunctional vehicle for mechanized agricultural operations on farmlands).

Presumably during the ride, the man lost control of the vehicle and it fell through the ice into water. The man and two children died at the scene, while the woman was taken to a hospital with in grave condition with severe frostbite.

At present, the woman is out of danger. The investigators are carrying out investigative operations to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
