On July 14, 2024, two residents of the Yukhnovsky district of the Kaluga region attempted to extinguish the Eternal Flame with their feet and then tore out a wreath from the burial site.

The investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kaluga region have initiated a criminal case under Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the RF (public desecration of the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland by a group of persons).

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, A.I. Bastrykin, instructed the head of the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee for the Kaluga region, M.S. Kharlamov, to submit a report on the progress of the criminal case investigation.
