Investigation of criminal case against mechanic of OOO Korund accused of violation of rules for handling environmentally hazardous materials finished in Nizhny Novgorod

Investigating bodies of the Volga Inter-Regional Conservation Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against a mechanic of one of the shops at OOO Korund (LLC) in the town of Dzerzhinsk, Novgorod Region. he is charged with a crime under part 2 of article 247 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of rules for dealing with environmentally hazardous substances).

According to investigators, in April-May 2012, the mechanic of OOO Korund violated the safety rules, which resulted in emergency emission of chlorine from a pipeline into the bottom layer on the premises of the facility and off it within Dzerzhinsk. As a result of chlorine effect 6 people sought medical help, one of them sustained grievous bodily harm. In connection with the accident workers from the neighboring shops were evacuated. The maximum excess of maximum permissible concentrations of chlorine in the atmosphere at OOO Korund reached 16.87 times in Dzershinsk – 6.14 times.

Investigators have gathered enough evidence, therefore, the case with the approved indictment has been forwarded to court to be tried on the merits.
