Northwestern Federal District Investigations Directorate finishes investigating criminal case against member of organized criminal group

The Northwestern Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has finished investigating a criminal case against 34-year-old Vikto Chalykh from Saint-Petersburg. He is charged with crimes under paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 126 of the RF Criminal Code (kidnapping committed by an organized group), paragraph “a” of part 4 of article 162 (robbery committed by an organized group).

According to investigators, Chalykh together with other members of the gang organized by Andrey Gulevich on 6 June 2009 in the town of Otradnoye, Kirovsky district, Leningrad Region assaulted businessman Sergey Tairov. After the attack they kidnapped Tairov and took him to the woods in Tosnensky district, Leningrad Region, where robbed him of his personal belongings and after that Chalykh fled the crime scene. Later the victim’s body with the signs of violent death was discovered handcuffed to a tree in the woods. The investigation into the murder is ongoing.

The criminal case against Gulevich has been severed into a separate lawsuit. The criminal case against another member of the criminal group – Temnikov – is on the finishing stage. 3 other members are federally wanted.

Investigators have gathered enough evidence and according the criminal case against Chalykh with the approved indictment has been forwarded to court to be tried on the merits.
