Criminal case opened in Krasnodar Territory to look into Su-25 SM crash

The Military Investigations Department of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Krasnodar Territory has launched a criminal investigation over crash of Su-25 SM plane as to the signs of a crime under article 351 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of flight rules or flight preparation).

Investigators have found that on September 23, 2013, the about 8:17 PM the contact was lost with the SU-25SM plane carrying out a training flight and piloted by a senior pilot of military unit 40491 Captain Alexey Nazarov.

The fragments of the plane were found during a search operation on a corn field 5 km away from the village of Novominskaya, Starominsky district in Krasnodar Territory. Visual examination showed that there was no ejection seat or the pilot. Fragments of a human body were found in examination of the territory surrounding the crash scene.

The search operation and initial investigating operations are underway. Investigation is ongoing.
