Investigators organizing identification of people killed in fire in Oksochi mental health care clinic in Novgorod Region

The Novgorod Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating a criminal case into a fire in the Oksochi mental health care clinic in the village of Luka, Malovishersky district in Novgorod Region opened over signs of crimes under part 3 of article 109, part 3 of article 293 of the RF Criminal Code (causing death to two or more people, negligence, entailing death of two or more people).

According to preliminary data there were 59 men inside the building and a nurse, who died trying to save others. 23 people were evacuated from the burning hospital. So far 35 bodies have been recovered from the scene. The cause of the fire was careless handling of fire by one of the patients.

At present the investigating group composed of investigators and criminologists of both the Central Office and local directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue examining the scene, the identification of the bodies is being organized, the eye witnesses are being identified and questioned, fire, DNA and medical forensic expert examinations have been fixed.
