In Irkutsk Region criminal proceedings opened in grenade explosion

The Irkutsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened criminal cases against a 38-year-old resident of the town of Angarsk over crimes under paragraph “a” of part 1 of article 213 of the RF Penal Code (hooliganism committed using objects that can be used like weapons), part 1 of article 222 (illegal storage and carrying of ammunition).

On 2 October, around 11 PM, in the town of Angarsk the drunk man asked a taxi driver to drive him to some place. When he was refused, he smashed the car’s window and then tried to run away. The taxi driver and the passenger ran after the man, but the latter threw a grenade and it exploded. The culprit was wounded by the explosion. The passenger of the taxi was also wounded.

After the incident the man refused any medical aid and threatened to throw another grenade demonstrating it to the police. The suspect was detained and taken to hospital.

At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident.
