In Penza Region investigation launched in light plane crash killing pilot

The Volga Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation in a Sintal light plane crash killing a 59-year-old resident of Ryazan, as a crime under part 2 of article 263 of the RF Penal Code (violation of safety standards for operation and traffic of air transport entailing death of a person by negligence).

According to investigators, at around 7:30 PM, 11 September 2014, the Sintal light plane owned by Ryazan aviation technical club crashed on landing after it had sprinkled agricultural lands. The pilot of the plane was killed in the crash.

At present the main theories are a pilot’s error, technical failure and worsening condition of the pilot. Conclusions regarding the casus of the crash and responsibility of anybody can be made only after a full set of investigative operations have been carried out.

At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The technical condition of the plane is being analyzed, witnesses are being questioned, the investigators are studying flight documents. The investigation is ongoing.
