In Kaliningrad Region ex-official of regional construction ministry convicted of bribery

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Kaliningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict a former leading consultant of shared construction control and surveillance department of the Kaliningrad Region Construction Ministry. Vladimir Zhuykov, 32, was found guilty of taking a bribe on a large scale by an official (part 2 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code).

The court and investigators have established that in the afternoon of 31 May 2014, the defendant, while being an official in charge of controlling the activity of contractors, involving and spending money invested by participants of shared construction of blocks of flats, personally took a bribe of 110 thousand rubles from CEO of an organization which was constructing a block of flats. The defendant got the bribe for not putting in the report of unscheduled inspection a flaw made by the contractor. Namely it was violation of accounting connected with involving the money invested by shareholders before the agreement on shareholding in shared construction of a block of flats in Guryevsk District, Kaliningrad Region had been registered by the state bodies.

Immediately after the official got the bribe, he was detained was detained by police. The defendant tried to hide the money in a toilet in a contractor’s building. During the investigation the defendant was dismissed from office.

The court has sentenced Zhuykov to a fine of 3 million 300 thousand rubles. He was also banned from occupying any positions in state or municipal bodies for 2 years.
