In Kaliningrad criminal investigation launched in death of workers resulted from collapse of pre-war Berlin bridge

The Kaliningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 216 of the RF Penal Code (breach of safety rules during construction or other work entailing death of two or more people) after four people were killed in a collapse of a part of Berlin bridge built before the war in the town of Kaliningrad.

According to investigators the workers were killed due to failure to observe necessary safety measures while dismantling the bridge.

According to preliminary information immediately before the collapse the workers as well as several pieces of construction equipment were on the bridge.

By now the investigators have identified the company that was responsible for dismantling the bridge. It is a construction company from Moscow.

The investigators have information one of the killed workers was a resident of Kaliningrad and another three were from Ivanovo Region.

At present the investigators are finding out all the circumstances of the crime, including identifying persons to be prosecuted. The investigation is ongoing.
