In Samara Region local residents found guilty of kidnapping, extortion and other crimes

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by Samara Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Vyacheslav Mitrofanov, Dmitry Paponov, Igor Biryukov. Depending on the role of each one they were charged with crimes under paragraphs “a” and “c” of part 2 of article 163 of the RF Penal Code (extortion by a group of people under a preliminary conspiracy using violence), part 1 of article 139 (violation of security of residence), part 1 of article 112 (deliberate infliction of medium bodily harm), paragraphs “a”, “c” and “h” of part 2 of article 126 (abduction by a group of people under a preliminary conspiracy out of mercenary motives using violence dangerous for life and health).

The court and investigators have revealed that in March 2014, the perpetrators having learned that an acquaintance of theirs had had his card debt written off started extorting from him 60 thousand rubles, threating with violence. The man agreed to give them money, but only sometime later. Not having received the promised money, in November 2014, Mitrofanov, Paponov and Biryukov arrived to the man’s house, who lived with his mother and stepfather. The man fled fearing that the perpetrators would beat him. Then they started demanding either money or a car worth 40 thousand rubles from his mother’s husband, 34. The man refused. After that Mitrofanov, Paponov and Biryukov by force abducted the 34-year-old man. On 1 December 2014, the man was released by law-enforcement officials.

The court has sentenced Mitrofanov to 7.5 years in prison, Paponov to 6 years 9 months in prison, Biryukov to 6 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony.
