Probe launched in Primorye in negligence of officials

The Primorye Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 2 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence).

On 6 September 2015, ground caved in in the yard of a house on Gertsen street in the town of Artyom making a 15-meter-deep and 3 meters in diameter gap, into which, the 55-year-old owner of the house must have fallen. The man was reported missing on 6 September, and is not accounted for until now.

According to investigators, the officials who had provided citizens with a piece of land dangerous for staying there and construction and who were obliged to ensure and control proper conservation of hollows of used courses and use of pieces of land considering the threat of caving in undermined grounds of Artyom coal deposit were negligent.

Operations are underway to identify people involved in the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
