Man in Astrakhan gets life for killing child

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Astrakhan Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 64-year-old Valery Polkovnikov. He was found guilty of killing a 12-year-old girl and robbery (paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 105, part 1 of article 162 of the RF Penal Code).

The court and investigators have revealed, that in November 2014, the 12-year-old girl from Trusovsky district of Astrakhan went missing. On 6 January 2014, the search party found remains of the girl which were processed for the DNA file. According to experts the remains belonged to the missing girl. Thanks to close cooperation between officials of the regional investigative committee and operative services of the regional offices of the Federal Penitentiary Services and Ministry of the Interior the perpetrator was identified. It is former criminal resident of Astrakhan Valery Polkovnikov. It was revealed that the man had met the victim near her house, offered to take a ride with him to the village of Morskoy, Trusovskoy district of Astrakhan. He held the girl in the village for several days and then killed her by stabbing her at least three times in the chest and hid the body. In addition, the investigators revealed that before that the man had robbed an instant loan station.

The court has sentenced Polkovnikov to life in prison to be served in a maximum-security penal colony.
