Probe launched in Omsk in collapse of tower crane killing two

On 26 October 2015, about 5 PM, 4 people were injured, two of whom later died, due to a collapse of a tower crane on the road in Marshal Zhukov street near house No 111 in the city of Omsk. The Omsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 216 of the RF Penal Code (safety breach during construction or other work, entailing death of two people by negligence).

According to preliminary data, the tower crane at a construction site of a trade and exhibition center with a hotel fell down on a Toyota Rav4 and GAZel-Sobol vehicles. The driver of the RAV4 and a minor passenger were killed while the driver of the other vehicle and the crane driver were hospitalized with injuries.

At the present time investigators are examining the scene. Investigative operations are underway to find the company that owned the crane and find out the reason of the crane’s collapse. The investigation is ongoing.
