Teacher of orphanage charged with illegal deprivation of freedom and abuse of office put under house arrest in Trans-Baikal Territory

The Trans Baikal Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have charged a 57-year-old female teacher of V.N. Podgorbunsky Chita Center of Help to Neglected Children in Trans-Baikal Territory with illegal deprivation of freedom of a minor (paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 127 of the RF Penal Code) and with power abuse committed using force (paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 286 of the RF Penal Code).

According to investigators, in August 2015, the accused while serving as the headmistress of a summer health camp locked up a 6-year-old boy in a fire safe box as a punishment and held him there for an hour. Then she hit him several times with a stick on his hands hurting the boy.

The investigators have carried out the initial investigation. They examined the incident scene, searched the orphanage, confiscated necessary documents. They questioned the inmates who were in the summer camp together with the victim. The accused refused to testify.

Today a court has ruled to put the accused under house arrest. The court took into consideration the arguments of investigators that the accused might press the victim and witnesses to make them change their testimonies or hamper the investigation in any other way. In addition, in order to eliminate any influence on the victim, the investigators have raised an issue of transferring the boy to another facility.

At present, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
