The Jewish Autonomous Area Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into a crime under Part 2, item “a” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of two or more people).

According to investigators, on the morning of 19 June 2016, several families including 2 police officers went to the bank of a water body in the settlement of Nikolayevka, Smidovichi District. A local resident was finishing nearby. The holidaymakers and the fisherman had a conflict presumably over a missing rubber boat. The local man got into his car and took off. He came back sometime later with a hunting rifle and opened fire on the holidaymakers. One of the men was killed at the scene, both police officers (on duty) were wounded and taken to hospitals where they are being treated now. When police officers who attended the call offered the man to surrender he killed himself.

An investigative team composed of the senior officials, investigators and criminalists of the local investigative authority and police officers keep on working at the scene. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident. The investigation is continued.
