In Leningrad Region, probe launched against group of people suspected of banditry in Kirovsk District

The Leningrad Region Office of the Investigative Committee continues an investigation into a crime under Part 3, items “a”, “c” and “g” of Article 126 of the RF Penal Code (abduction of a person by a group of people using violence against two or more people).

The investigative and search operations conducted together with officers of the Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Region Directorate of the RF Interior Ministry have revealed 11 more counts of crimes under Part 1 of Article 112, Part 2 of Article 162, Part 2, items “a” and “c” of Article 163, Part 2, items “a” and “c” of Article 163, Part 2 of Article 162, Part 2 of Article 167, Part 2 of Article 167, Part 2 of Article 167, Part 2 Article 228 of the RF Penal Code (grievous bodily harm, robbery, car theft, illegal storage of drugs).

The investigators have revealed that the accused abducted two men on 6 November 2015 from the town of Otradnoye, Kirovsk District, Leningrad Region and held them in a garage, beating and demanding money. A long time later, when the accused at last got from the men money and belongings worth more than 132, 500 rubles, they released their prisoners. The same perpetrators assailed Otradnoye Post Office of the Kirovsk Department of the Federal Post Service’s Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Region Division. They used some objects as weapons and stole from there more than 40 thousand rubles.

The investigators saw in those actions signs of a crime under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 209 of the RF Penal Code (setting up a stable armed group (gang) and membership in it) and opened respective cases against 6 men. The gang stopped its activity in 2015, after its members were detained. All of the accused were taken into custody pending trial.

All the said cases are going to be joined to form a single lawsuit. The investigators are carrying out all necessary investigative operations to find out all the details of how the gang was set up and operating and to reveal all crimes committed by the gang.
