In Bashkortostan, parents found guilty of death of three children in fire in Sharan District

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Bashkortostan office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict a 37-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from Sharan District. They were found guilty of a crime under part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (negligent homicide of two or more people).

The Court and investigators have revealed that on the evening of 19 April 2016, a fire happened in a house in the settlement of Nureyevo, Sharan District. Firemen of the Russian Emergencies Ministry found bodies of three children on the fire scene: two girls aged 5 and 1, and a boy aged 3.

There had been an electric short circuit in the house while the parents were away shopping and some things in the house had caught fire. The children were too small to have been able to put out the fire, get out the house or call for help, so they died at the scene of smoke inhalation.

The court has given the parents of the killed children suspended sentences of 2 years each.
