Investigative committee to conduct all necessary operations to find all reasons for death of child in Vityaz ice palace in Podolsk

A working meeting with representatives of the Russian Hockey Federation has been held today at the Investigative Committee. It was attended by head of procedural control department of the Investigative Committee Yevgeny Minayev, deputy head of the Moscow Region Directorate of the Investigative Committee Vitaly Tkachev, head of the Podolsk office of the Moscow Region Directorate of the Investigative Committee Alexander Ivanov, executive director of the Russian hockey Federation Dmitry Kurbatov, chairman of the Russian Hockey Federation’s disciplinary committee Vladimir Katkov and others.

During the meeting the parties discussed an incident that happened at Vityaz ice palace in the town of Podolsk. On the evening of 11 February 2017, a 14-year-old boy felt unwell after a hockey practice at the ice palace. Unfortunately, resuscitation operations were unsuccessful. The preliminary cause of death was pulmonary edema. The Moscow Region Directorate of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in negligent homicide under Part 1 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code. Investigators seized and are now processing documents vital for the investigation. They are also now questioning hockey coaches and are going to give legal assessment to the actions of medical personnel who administered first medical aid to the boy. The central office of the Investigative Committee is overseeing the investigation.

The representatives of the Russian Hockey Federation pointed out that they were ready to provide any kind of assistance to find out all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The Federation has already ordered an internal check, suspended two coaches who trained the boy. The check involves the Federation’s medical and security services. The parties agreed on further cooperation in the investigation and on helping the boy’s parents.

Some social and mass medical are now actively offering different versions of the incident which totally unfounded and put obstacles to an impartial investigation. All unbiased and thus truthful information can come only from an official source, that is the Investigative Committee, which is now investigating the incident.
