In Dagestan, probe launched in death of girl

The Dagestan Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in criminal negligence entailing death of a person under Part 2 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, dead body of a 9-year-old girl with multiple lacerated wounds presumably caused by dog bites was found on 19 February 2017 near No 38 in Petra I street in the city of Makhachkala. This became possible because officials of the Makhachkala Housing Utilities Department were negligent in catching stray dogs in towns and settlements.

At present, the investigators are looking into all the circumstances surrounding the incident, taking measures to identify the guilty officials and to prosecute them. A forensic medical expert examination has been ordered to find cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.
