During his visit to the Republic of Austria Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin had a working meeting with Deputy of UN Secretary General, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Yury Fedotov.
The negotiations were focused on discussion of relevant issues of international cooperation in the area of law enforcement.
During the discussion with the Deputy of UN Secretary General Alexander Bastrykin underlined priority of such direction of international cooperation of the Investigative Committee of Russia as cooperation with international organizations such as the United Nations and cooperation under UN Convention against corruption that had set a high standard of return of stolen funds and became the first global anti-corruption tool, UN Convention against transnational organized crime and other international agreements.
Yury Fedotov positively noted the work of experts of the Investigative Committee of Russia within international interagency delegations that take part in the work of relevant working groups in the area of work of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. He highlighted the importance of consolidation and intensification of efforts of states in issues of combating crime and return of stolen funds.
In conclusion of the working meeting Alexander Bastrykin and Yury Fedotov agreed that the active cooperation of relevant bodies of the Russian Federation and UN, including this in law enforcement area, will facilitate maintenance of law and order and preserving stability, respect for human rights and freedoms and strengthening of state and interstate institutions.
The parties confirmed their intent to further develop constructive cooperation between the Investigative Committee of Russia and UN relative authorities and institutions.
