French citizen suspected of gathering information on Russian military activities has been detained in Moscow

Investigative authorities of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the city of Moscow have opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the RF (failure to fulfill the obligation established by the legislation of the Russian Federation to submit documents to the authorized body necessary for inclusion in the register of foreign agents, committed by a person carrying out targeted collection of information in the field of military and military-technical activities of the Russian Federation, which, if obtained by foreign sources, may be used against the security of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, in the course of several years, the suspect, with the intent to evade the obligation established by the legislation of the Russian Federation to submit documents to the authorized body necessary for inclusion in the register of foreign agents, purposefully gathered information in the field of military and military-technical activities of the Russian Federation. This information, if obtained by foreign sources, may be used against state security. For these purposes, the suspect repeatedly visited the territory of Russia, where he held meetings with citizens of the Russian Federation.

As a result of well-planned and executed operational search activities, the suspect has been detained and brought to the department of Moscow Investigative Committee for investigative actions.

In the near future, he will be formally charged and a preventive measure will be determined.
