Criminal investigation in mass poisoning of children in children’s camp Zvyozdny in Tver Region finished

Tver Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case into food poisoning of children aged between 7 and 14 in the children’s health camp Zvyozdny containing signs of crimes under part 1 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code, part 1 of article 293 (production, storage, transportation or sales of goods or products, execution or rendering services, which do not meet safety standards; negligence).

According to investigators, On 3 July 2013, a 36-year-old woman, who served as a senior cook in the company Tverskoy Shkolnik was in charge of cooking the food and its distribution to children in the camp. The woman was a carrier of Norwalk virus and knew that she was not allowed to be in the kitchens with the disease, but did not go to a doctor, by which violated sanitarian and epidemiological rules. The cook made lunch for children and the staff of the camp Zvyozndy located near the village of Yamok in Mednovsky rural settlement, Kalininsky district, Tver Region. As a result of the woman’s actions 50 underage children and 1 staffer of the camp were hospitalized with the signs of Norwalk virus from 2 PM 3 July to 7 AM 4 July 2013. The bodily harm was qualified as slight.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, therefore the criminal case with the approved indictment has been forwarded to the court to be tried on the merits.
