In Sverdlovsk Region criminal investigation launched into services not meeting health and life safety standards involving grievous bodily harm

On 22 June 2014, about 07:40 PM, the police in the city of Yekaterinburg got a report that a wagon with 4 people got capsized in the Mayakovsky Central Amusement Park. According to preliminary reports a 10 year-old girl had bruised her head and her 33-year-old father got multiple bruises to his body, 2 young women born in 1984 and 1989 were also injured. The 25-year-old girl got the worst traumas (according to preliminary diagnoses – she had a brain injury), she was taken to hospital No 36 in Yekaterinburg unconscious, the other one complained about back ache.

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Sverdlovsk Region have launched a criminal investigation into the crime under paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (providing services not meeting health and life safety standards involving grievous bodily harm by negligence).

Investigators of the Russia’s Investigative Committee and the police are working at the scene. They are examining it and questioning witnesses. The investigators have requested the documents concerning the private firm, which provided the services.

Considering all the circumstances of the incident, the investigators have already issued a warrant to detain the director of the firm operating the ride. In the near future charges will be pressed against him and adequate restraint will be chosen. Other employees of the firm responsible for the safety of citizens on the ride are being questioned. The investigation is ongoing.
