Criminal case launched over attack on employee of Russia’s embassy in Abkhazia

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District launched a criminal case over the murder of the First Secretary of the Consular Department of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia Dmitry Vishernev under Article 277, Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 105, Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code ( attempt on the life of a statesman, attempted murder of two or more persons, arms trafficking).

According to investigators, September 9, 2013, at about 8.30 a.m., an unidentified person made at least five 9 mm pistol shots at the car of the First Secretary of the Consular Department of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia Dmitry Vishernev near the apartment building on Nazadze street in Sukhum, Republic of Abkhazia. As a result of gunshot wounds, Vishernev died on the spot. His wife, who also was in the car, was taken to a Sukhum hospital with gunshot wounds.

Currently, in accordance with the existing international treaties and agreements between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation, on the instructions of international legal assistance, the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District is carrying out the necessary urgent investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime and the perpetrators.
