Deputy prosecutor of Khamovniki inter-district prosecutor’s office of Moscow suspected of mediation in bribery

The major Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation against Deputy of Khamovniki inter-district prosecutor of the city of Moscow Yulia Gorbacheva. She is suspected of crimes under paragraph “b” of part 3 of article 291.1 of the RF Penal Code and part 4 of article 291.1 (mediation in bribery on a large scale and medication in briber on a very large scale).

According to investigators, in October 2015, Gorbacheva, acting on the instruction and in the interest of so far unidentified bribe-givers as a mediator illegally offered a federal judge of Khamovniki District Court of Moscow about 3 million rubles worth of bribes to in rubles and foreign currency for applying article 64 of the RF Penal Code (more lenient punishment than the one provided for the crime in question) when giving punishment to the accused in one case and for giving an almost minimal prison term in another case.

On 21 October 2015, as a result of investigative and search operations carried out by officers of the Federal Security Service in cooperation with the Russia’s Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General’s Office aimed at breaking Gorbacheva’s wrongdoings, the suspect was detained when she was handing a bribe.

Gorbacheva is planned to be charged soon with mediation in bribery and after that the investigators are going to request a court to remand her in custody pending trial. At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime and identify people involved. The investigation is ongoing.
