Additional investigations launched during probe in brutal treatment of children in Trans-Baikal Territory

The Trans-Baikal investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee during the investigation into facts of brutal treatment of children have additionally launched several more investigations into newly-discovered crimes against children.

The Trans-Baikal investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are investigating a case against the teacher of V.N. Podgorbunsky Chita Aid Center for Neglected Children of Trans-Baikal Territory (orphanage No 1) Yelena Smolina. She is charged with illegal deprivation of freedom of a minor (paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 127 of the RF Penal Code) and with power abuse committed using force (paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 286 of the RF Penal Code).

In addition, the investigators have revealed that the woman had committed other crimes against the same 6-year-old boy. According to investigators, the accused locked the boy in a cage storing fire tools, for minor faults, and in a small fire box made of a net. In addition, the headmistress of the camp ordered children from the senior group to put the boy in a big bag and take it to the forest outside the camp for some time. Besides, the accused dressed the boy in girls’ clothes and made him stand like that in front of a line of other inmates.

Additional criminal cases into crimes against paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 127 of the RF Penal Code (illegal deprivation of freedom of a minor), paragraph “d” of part 2 of article 117 (torture of a minor) and article 156 (failure do the duty of raising a minor).

At the present time, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
