8 deaths of newborn babies were registered in Oryol Perinatal Center between 3 and 18 January 2016. 7 of the babies were delivered prematurely. All the babies were born with different kinds of pathologies and development problems. Given that a considerable number of deaths of newborn babies was registered in a short period of time in one hospital and based on the amount of investigative activity, the Oryol Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 293 of the RF penal Code (negligence).

Investigators are going to impartially look into each death including running forensic tests and to check the quality of medical services provided at the Oryol Prenatal Center. The investigation is ongoing.
