In Arkhangelsk, members of organized group to stand trial for bribery and abuse of office

The Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished the investigation against 10 former officials of the police charged depending on the role and degree of each one with 21 counts of crimes under part 1 of article 285 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of power), part 1 of article 286 (exceeding authority), parts 5 and 6 of article 290 (taking a cash bribe by an organized group in a very large scale for illegal actions and illegal omission for a briber).

According to investigators, the former and active police officers in an organized group for a fee arranged for problem-free gambling, passed on the information on the sites and time of unplanned gambling inspections in Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk and Novodvinsk. In the period between 2009 and 2014, the members of the organized group, including police officers, engaged in search and investigative activity and who actively resisted to revealing and breaking crimes, took bribes each month and the overall sum reached over 18 million rubles.

In all, during the investigation 26 people have been prosecuted, including 15 former and active police officers. A court has already convicted 3 police officers and one briber.

After the probe was launched, the involved police officers were dismissed from service following the order of the Office of the Russian Ministry of the Interior.

The said crimes were solved thanks to search and investigative operations carried out by investigators of the Russia’s Investigative Committee jointly with the officers of the Arkhangelsk Region Office of the Federal Security Service and Arkhangelsk Region Office for Internal Security of the Russian Ministry of the Interior.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
