The Karelia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation in a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide of two or more people).

According to investigators, on the night of 13 August 2016, a fire started in a flat of a 4-flat wooden building in the settlement of Vorovoy, Kalevala District, Karelia. According to preliminary information, five people died in the fire^ two women aged 52 and 3 children (women’s grandchildren) aged 4, 5 and 8 years.

By now the fire has been put out, the cause of the blaze is being investigated.

An investigative team is working at the scene. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident.
