The North Ossetia-Alania Office of the Investigative Committee continues the investigation into a crime under Part 3, item “a” of Article 286 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of authority using violence) opened against officials of the Republican Ministry of the Interior following the death of a arrestee at the police department.

On 31 October 2015, at about 3:30 PM, a 39-year-old local resident was delivered to the Vladikavkaz police department on suspicions of grievous bodily harm. The police officers abused their authority when they used physical force against the man. On the night of 1 November 2015, the unconscious man was taken from the police department to the resuscitation department of the Republican Hospital in the city of Vladikavkaz and died there.

The chief of the department and 7 officers have been detained. Following the request of the investigators, a court has ruled to put them in custody pending trial and pressed charges of abuse of authority. Another one of the operative agents escaped and was put on a federal wanted list. He was charged in absentia.

Thanks to professionally planned and carried out investigative and search operations, the officers of the regional offices of the Investigative Committee and the Federal Security Service have held the ninth police officer, a 27-year-old police captain charged with abuse of authority. Now he is expecting a custodial restraint. The investigation is ongoing.
