The Irkutsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide of two).

On the afternoon of 17 August 2016, a hut caught fire in the woods near Kurchatova street in the town of Bratsk. Two boys aged 10 and 11 were killed in the fire. The children had made the hut from boards. It was cone-shaped with entrance on top and was insulated inside with foam plastic. Apparently, the killed children had got inside, but then could not get out when the fire started. The children are known to have been raised in problem-free families.

A number of necessary forensic inquiries are underway while the investigation is ongoing.
