In Sakha Republic (Yakutia), probe launched against MV captain suspected of negligence entailing especially large damage

The East Siberian Transport Investigations Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against the captain of the Lenaneft-2013 MV owned by OAO Lena Joint Steamship Company suspected of a crime under Part 1 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence, that is improper discharge of duty by an official if it entailed damage on a very large scale).

According to investigators, on 1 June 2016, near the settlement of Zhatai, Yakutsk, Sakha (Yakutia), the captain of the Lenaneft-2013 MV in the roads in the Lena River, while being a person responsible for the safety of cargo, made a decision to mix subquality fuel the ship was carrying in its tanks with the fuel of quality that met state standards. After the crew had executed the captain’s order, all 1.1 thousand tons of fuel became worthless. As a result of the captain’s actions the Lena Joint Steamship Company suffered a loss of over 12 million rubles.

Investigative operations are underway to find out all the reasons and details of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
