Probe launched in death of woman and her three children in fire in Chuvashia

The Cheboksary police department got a report about 3:30 AM, on 27 May 2017, that there was a fire in a two-flat single-floor private wooden house in 1st Chapayev Street. After firefighters put out the fire, they found 4 bodies: a 37-year-old woman and her three daughters aged 16, 6 and 4. The Chuvashia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligent homicide of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators the house was built in 1936 and had two flats in it. One of them was occupied by a man who woke up at night because of cracking noises and ran outside to see the house on fire.

The killed family was a good one. Their loved ones are now getting psychological assistance. An investigative team, including the head of the regional investigative authority and experienced criminalists, are working at the fire site examining it. The house was badly damaged and is beyond repair. According to preliminary data, the family died of carbon monoxide inhalation.

At present, investigators are working to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. They are checking different versions, questioning witnesses and have ordered forensic medical DNA and fire tests. The bodies are being identified. The investigation is ongoing.
