Probe launched in unsafe services after light plane crash in Moscow Region

The Moscow Interregional Transport Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in provision of services that do not meet safety standards and have entailed death of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code after a light plane crashed in Mozhaisk District, Moscow Region.

According to investigators, a light Yakov Yak-18T plane flown by a 64-year-old pilot and with two passengers aboard took off from Vatulino airfield in Ruza District, Moscow Region at 11:40 AM, on 27 May 2017. It was a pleasure flight from Vatulino to Borodino.

At about 11:50 AM, during a maneuver the plane hit the ground outside the village of Tatarinovo, Mozhaisk District. The plane caught fire and burned to the core. Pilot and the passengers: a 27-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man died on the scene.

The investigators are looking into three main versions of the crash: a pilot’s error, bad weather and technical failure. An investigative team is now working to find out all the circumstances of the crime and to identify those responsible for it.

The investigation is ongoing.
