St. Petersburg investigators finish probe against administrator of group of death active on social media

The Saint Petersburg Directorate of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against Filipp Budeikin also known as Filipp Lis on social media charged with suicide solicitation and attempted suicide solicitation under Article 110, Part 3 of Article 30 and Article 110 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, in April-May 2016, Budeikin was engaged in regular activity on VKontakte (VK) social network to promote suicides among teenagers in the city of Moscow and its region and to urge them to kill themselves.

The investigators revealed that Budeikin enticed a 15-year-old girl from the city of Astrakhan to commit suicide. However, the teenager was dissuaded from it by law-enforcers.

The accused also persuaded a 15-year-old girl to take her own life. She tried to kill herself on 3 June 2016 in Tyumen Region, but doctors managed to save her.

The investigators now have enough evidence so the criminal case has been forwarded for the indictment to be signed.

In addition, the Investigative Committee’s Central Office continues working to identify other persons urging teenagers to kill themselves on social media.
