The evidence gathered by the investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Sverdlovsk Region was found sufficient by the court to sentence a 35-year-old resident of Yekaterinburg. He was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 2 Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder), Part 2 Article 105 (attempted murder), Article 131 (rape), Article 132 (sexual violence), Article 162 (robbery), Article 167 (attempted and deliberate damage of another’s property), Article 119 (threat of killing), and Article 244 (outrage upon bodies).
The investigation and the court established that the accused committed those crimes from October 2004 to April 2017 in the territory of the Ordzhonikidze District of Yekaterinburg, the town of Verkhnyaya Pyshma and the Nizhneserginsky District. 8 peopled were injured, including two underage girls, from the actions of the criminal. Three women, born in 1984, 1962 and 1986, died from injuries inflicted by the accused (these episodes took place in 2004, 2005 and 2017). The life of one victim (a woman born in 1975), to whom the accused began to attack with a screwdriver, was saved because the criminal was deterred by two men who responded to victim's cry for help. The accused fled from the said men being afraid of detention (this episode took place in 2012).
In the course of the investigation, it was established that the accused was in a state of intoxication during the commission of some of the crimes incriminated to him. In most cases, he assaulted previously unknown women and girls, whom he met after dark in not crowded places. In order to break the resistance of the victims, the criminal threatened them with murder, used violence, punching them, as well as attacking with knives and a screwdriver. The accused murdered the women who showed him the strongest resistance.
The exposure of the criminal began with the detection of the brutal murder of a woman born in 1986, which occurred in Verkhnyaya Pyshma in April 2017. Establishing all circumstances of this crime, the investigators along with the criminal investigation police department officers analysed information on all unsolved crimes of similar character committed in previous years. Due to the huge amount of executed work, the man’s involvement in other crimes was established.
The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment in strict regime colony.
