Upon instruction of Chairman of Russian Investigative Committee, probe launched into death of Ivan Krapivin

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin instructed to open an investigation into an offence under Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder of a minor) in relation to the death of minor Ivan Krapivin.

During the launched and processed criminal cases related to the death of Vanya Krapivin, the investigation will give a strict legal evaluation to actions of Roman Pronin who beat the boy and to actions of other persons if they will be recognised as offences.

Roman Pronin is currently serving a 14.5 year sentence for attempted murder of two persons. According to the law in effect, the punishment for an attempted crime cannot exceed three quarters of a maximum sentence or size of the strictest punishment. Regarding the death of Vanya Krapivin, Pronin’s actions will be recognised by the investigation as a fully committed offence. In this case, the Article provides for a heavier punishment up to a life sentence.
