Charges pressed against two perpetrators of probes into rehabilitation of Nazism during Immortal Regiment Online action in 2021

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues investigation of probes launched in relation to downloading of information about Nazi criminals to the Immortal Regiment of Russia movement website in 2021. In terms of investigation Andrey Akimov from Orenburg Region and Sergey Sakharov from Tomsk Region were charged with rehabilitation of Nazism (Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

According to investigation, not later than April 28, 2021 Akimov, in order to approve the crimes determined by the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg, used the application "Immortal Regiment Online" on a social network to apply for a photo display of the leader of the National Socialist German Workers' Party Adolf Hitler during the action "Immortal Regiment Online".

Sergei Sakharov, pursuing similar goals, no later than May 2 of this year issued an application for a demonstration during the said action of a photograph of another Nazi leader of the NSDAP, Joseph Goebbels.

At this stage, Akimov refused to express his attitude to the indictment, while Sakharov, in turn, partially admitted his guilt for what he had done. At the same time, during interrogations as accused Akimov and Sakharov fully confirmed the fact of placing information about Nazi criminals for demonstration in the same ranks with veterans who fought against Nazi Germany.
