A Ukrainian soldier is charged with murdering a civilian

The Investigators of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation charged a senior sergeant Mr. Anton Cherednik - a soldier of the 501st separate battalion of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A-1965). He is charged of a crime, prescribed in Part 1 Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian persons, use of banned means and methods of warfare).

It is established, that on March 27, 2022, at 18:30 in the Mirny settlement of the Mariupol city, Mr. Cherednik and his crew-officers, while carrying out the surveillance patrol, have stopped two men and ordered them to lie down on the ground. Realizing the fact, that the citizens who introduced themselves to him and presented their identification documents were not the participants of the armed conflict, he demanded to pronounce the phrase in Ukrainian language, firing the automatic shots into the air due to intimidate the victims. Using an incorrect pronunciation as a pretext, Mr. Cherednik shot one of the men. The second victim remained alive and provided the detailed testimony to the investigation regarding the crime committed.

The investigation continues.
