The Investigating Authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Kamchatka krai launched a criminal case against the Manager and the guide-instructor of "Extreme Time" LLC on the provision of services that do not meet the requirements of life and health safety, inflicting the death of two or more persons (Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code RF). Also, the Investigating Authorities of the Russian Investigative Committee for Kamchatka krai continue to investigate a criminal case for the death of nine tourists while climbing the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in the Ust-Kamchatsky raion of Kamchatka krai (Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to preliminary information, on September 3, 2022, when climbing the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in Ust-Kamchatsky raion of Kamchatka krai, not less than 5 climbers died at an altitude of about 4,150 meters. It was a group of tourists who arrived from 7 regions of Russia, consisting of 10 people and two guides from the Novosibirsk Travel Company. Within the following days, a message was received about the death of 4 more people

Within the criminal investigation, an investigative group was organized from investigators of major crimes, forensic investigators of the investigative department, as well as a forensic investigators from the Main Directorate of Criminalistics (Forensic Center) of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Investigators of the Investigative Committee carried out a visual inspection of the scene where the tourist group of climbers started their climb, the necessary things and objects were seized. Complete personal data of tourists have been identified; their relatives are being questioned as thoroughly as it is possible. For these purposes, instructions were sent to the investigative directorates of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation at their place of residence. As well as the instructions to the criminal investigation authorities of Kamchatka krai are given in order to arrange their accommodation on the Kamchatka krai territory. Inspection of electronic files is carried out.

At present, following the instruction, the Officers of the ID for Novosibirsk oblast have carried out a set of investigative actions: a search, cofiscation of files in the "Extreme Time" LLC travel Agency. Subsequently, the files will be examined by investigators. On the order of investigators of the investigative directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for Kamchatka krai, the Manager of the travel agency Extreme Time LLC was detained in Novosibirsk. Currently, investigators of the Russian Investigative Committee continue to work with him. The issue of imposing a restraint for him is being proceeded.

Investigators of the ICR have done a lot of work to identify and interrogate the witnesses involved in the delivery of climbers, both to the territory of the Kamchatka krai and to the foot of the volcano.

The Investigation Department is conducting a thorough study at identifying all the circumstances of the incident, the details and the causees of the death of tourists.
