Evidence collected by the Main Investigative Directorate of the IC of Russia, recognized as sufficient by court to adjudicate a verdict, based on verdict of jury, against Ms. Elena Belaya, Acting Chief physician of the maternity hospital No. 4 of Kaliningrad oblast and Ms. Elina Sushkevich, anesthesiologist-resuscitator. They were found guilty of the murder of a juvenile (paragraph "c", Part 2, Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
It was identified that in 2018, after finding out that one of the the patients delivered a child in serious condition, Ms. Elena Belaya, acting chief physician of the maternity hospital ordered Ms.Sushkevich, the anesthesiologist-resuscitator, to kill the baby by injecting the magnesium sulfate to him in a dosage many times higher than allowed for newborns. The motive for this crime was the unwillingness to worsen the statistics of the medical institution.
The crime was confirmed by the conclusions of the forensic medical examinations, which were carried out with the involvement of the chief neonatologist of the Ministry of Health, a toxicologist, an anesthesiologist-resuscitator and other specialists. The investigation found that magnesium sulfate, 20 times higher than the allowable values for an adult, was injected into a living child intravenously just before the onset of his death. This drug could not enter the child's body in any other way.
The video recording of the meeting held under the instructions of Ms.Belaya was carefully studied and analyzed. This record also testified to the intentional manipulation towards the child, which resulted his death, as well as to the motive for the crime, connected with the desire to avoid the worsening of statistics. The position of the investigation was confirmed by other doctors of the maternity hospital, who were present at the time of the crime and the discussion of the method of committing the murder.
The actions of Ms.Belaya are qualified by the investigation as the organizer of the murder of a juvenile, the actions of Ms.Sushkevich - as the perpetrator of the murder.
Ms. Sushkevich was sentenced to 9 years in prison, Ms.Belaya - 9.5 years in prison. They will serve their sentences in a general regime penal colony.
