A meeting of the International Union of Criminalists was held at the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation under the chairmanship of Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin to review the results of the first year of operation and set the priority areas of activity.

The event, held via video conference, was attended by A.N. Savenkov, Director of the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS); A.G. Zvyagintsev, member of the Public Council under the Investigative Committee of Russia; E.R. Rossinskaya, Head of the Department of Forensic Expertise at the Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSLU); A.I. Alexandrov, Chief Researcher at the Institute of State and Law of the RAS; Yu.F. Kamenetsky, Head of the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus; K.K. Seytenov, First Vice-Rector of the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan; A.A. Bessonov, Rector of the Sukharev Moscow Academy of the Investigative Committee of Russia; A.E. Kukushkin, Chairman of the International Union of Criminalists; S.V. Avralov, Chairman of the Moscow City Union of Investigation Veterans; representatives from the Knyaz Alexander Nevsky Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSLU), Lomonosov Moscow State University, Kikot Moscow University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Moscow Academy of the Investigative Committee of Russia, and the Institute of State and Law of the RAS.

Opening the meeting, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia reminded the attendees that the International Union of Criminalists was established a year ago. Today, it includes representatives from Russia, and the Republics of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan. A representative office has been opened in the Republic of Belarus.

Summarizing the results, the head of the agency noted that in a short period of time, the Union has already made a significant scientific contribution into the development of criminology and forensic expertise. Over the past year, it has held large-scale international scientific and practical events, dedicated to the investigation and prevention of crimes against peace and safety of humanity, as well as genocide. These forums have demonstrated the role of criminology and other criminal law sciences in establishing the circumstances of these crimes.

A.E. Kukushkin and A.A. Bessonov presented the report on the work of the International Union of Criminalists for 2023.

A.A. Bessonov provided the details of organized events. Specifically, the spoke about an International Scientific and Practical Conference in November 2023, dedicated to the investigation and prevention of crimes against peace and safety of humanity, organized together with the Sukharev Moscow Academy of the Russian Investigative Committee. Also, in March, the Union was one of the organizers of the International Scientific and Practical Conference: genocide, challenges of our time.

Presentations were also made by A.N. Savenkov, A.G. Zvyagintsev, Yu.F. Kamenetsky, and K.K. Seytenov.

E.I. Galyashina, Head of the Department of Criminology at Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSLU), presented the results of the work of the Youth Section of the International Union of Criminalists.

During the meeting, priority areas for the Union's activities for the second half of 2024 and 2025 were identified, including increasing the Union's membership by inviting well-known criminologists and practitioners, and expanding the geographical scope of its foreign representative offices, and organizing international scientific and representative events on current issues in criminology, forensic expertise, and legal practice in the field of crime investigation.

As part of the agenda, five new members were unanimously admitted to the International Union of Criminalists.

In Conclusion, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia thanked the participants for their active work. He emphasized the need to involve colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service in the Union's work, and noted the importance of ensuring generational continuity among Soviet criminologists by developing the Youth Section.

In a solemn ceremony, Union members received their certificates.
