On the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, personnel from the investigative directorates of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation joined veterans and cadets across the country in events commemorating another anniversary of the start of the invasion by fascist forces onto our homeland. Officers of the department lit candles in the night silence in memory of all those who perished during the Great Patriotic War, laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and military memorials, paying tribute to the fallen with a minute of silence.

Employees of the Main Directorate for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases and investigative directorates in Moscow, Kurgan, Tyumen, Ryazan, Orenburg, Tomsk, Lipetsk, Kursk, Tambov, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Novgorod, Smolensk, Volgograd, Tula, Rostov, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Magadan, Rostov, Amur, Vladimir, Murmansk, Penza, Bryansk, Belgorod, Sakhalin, Pskov regions, as well as in the Republics of Bashkortostan, Karelia, Komi, Mari El, North Ossetia-Alania, Kalmykia, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Krasnodar, Stavropol, Altai territories, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Republic of Khakassia, Arkhangelsk region and Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and employees of interregional investigative directorates on transportation and others participated in the memorial events.

In St. Petersburg, a solemn mourning ceremony took place at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the foot of the monument "Motherland."

Leaders and personnel of the Main Directorate of the Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg, the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Leningrad Region, the Western Multiregional Investigation Department on Transportation of the Investigative Committee of Russia, as well as the Forensic Expert Center of the Investigative Committee of Russia (based in St. Petersburg) paid tribute to the memory of those who died during the siege of Leningrad, honoring the heroic feat of defenders of our homeland who, through incredible efforts and sacrifices, brought closer the Great Victory.

Students and staff of the St. Petersburg Academy of the Investigative Committee of Russia also joined the events. A fiery tableau of memorial candles unfolded at the Palace Square in St. Petersburg, dedicated in part to the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. The Unified St. Petersburg Cadet Corps participated in the "Memory Candle 2024" online campaign.

Mourning events also took place in new regions of Russia. Officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia lit candles in memory of the deceased and paid tribute to the fallen with a minute of silence.

In the Donetsk People's Republic, the head and personnel of the investigative department, as well as military investigators, participated in the patriotic "Memory Candle" action at Saur-Mogila. Participants in the action lit candles in memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War, laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and the graves of heroes.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, investigators from departments investigating particularly important cases and staff of the investigative management apparatus lit candles and laid flowers at the memorial "1941. June. Dawn. Without a declaration of war..." located on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Avenue.

In Taras Shevchenko Park, officers of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kherson region, together with volunteers and local residents, laid flowers and lit candles at the monument to the Unknown Soldier.

In Luhansk, employees of the department, students, and faculty of the Luhansk Academy of the Investigative Committee of Russia lit candles in Gorky Park.

On this day, every Russian family pays homage and gratitude to all those who did not live to see the bright Victory Day. In the historical memory of the people, this war will forever remain an endless pain. After many decades, we mourn and pay immeasurable respect to those who endured all the hardships and deprivations of the Great Patriotic War, those who died but did not surrender, those who performed military and labor feats for the sake of future generations!
