A French citizen pleaded guilty in a criminal case regarding illegal gathering of information in the field of Russian military activities

The Investigation Department for the Central Administrative District of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Moscow is investigating a criminal case against Laurent Vinatie, a citizen of the France. He is accused of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the RF (evasion of duties stipulated by the legislation of the Russian Federation on foreign agents).

According to the investigation, for several years Vinatie failed to fulfill the duties established by the legislation of the Russian Federation to submit documents necessary for inclusion in the register of foreign agents to the authorized agency, and he engaged in the illegal gathering of information in the field of military and military-technical activities of the Russian Federation. This information, if in possession by foreign sources, could be used against the security of the state. For these purposes, the accused visited the territory of Russia, including Moscow, where he held meetings with citizens of the Russian Federation.

His criminal activities were brought to a halt thanks to the joint efforts of investigators from the Moscow Investigative Committee and the FSB of Russia. Moreover, the defendant has been included in the register of foreign agents.

As part of the criminal case investigation, seven witnesses, with whom the accused held meetings to collect information in the field of military and military-technical activities of the Russian Federation, have been interrogated. A linguistic forensic examination was ordered based on the audio recordings of these meetings. The investigation has reviewed the results of operational-search activities, and also examined the technical devices seized from the accused. During interrogation, he fully admitted his guilt.
